Dethroned - _Prophecies of Doom_
by: Quentin Kalis (3 out of 5)
The latest addition to the ranks of the romanticized doom/death legions hails from Lebanon, but this has not been a barrier to their heavy My Dying Bride worship, a connection reinforced by the artwork of Aaron Stainthorpe. This is not the worst band to be influenced by, but understandably Dethroned do not wish to be mere clones. Attempts at individualization have been made, particularly on "My Eternal Love", which incorporates an Arabic melody, but this token usage is insufficient to substantially mitigate the monolithic wall of early Nineties doom that they have artfully replicated. The material is not dodgy; merely that it has been done before on numerous occasions, and needs that little something extra to enable them to stand out from a phalanx of similar acts, inside and outside of Lebanon.
