Cyclotron - _Demo 2008_
by: Quentin Kalis (3 out of 5)
Cyclotron's melding of raw thrash and death riffs adds to their appeal, but the true strength lies in the varied an idiosyncratic vocal approach, ranging from the heavily manipulated to near whispered snarling. The result is a primitive sounding band that has at the very least a veneer of originality. The drums sound as if they are as real as Pamela Anderson's boobs; most likely due to a drum machine, but could be the result of the less than pristine production, which would also account for the rather thin if occasionally effective guitar tone. Included as a bonus is a cover of Cannibal Corpse's timeless classic "Hammer Smashed Face", an interesting but hardly essential interpretation that loses much of the original's brutality. Nonetheless, Cyclotron have cleared the first hurdle faced by any demo band, in finding something that they can call their own and will provide available building block for future endeavours.
