Indyus - _Demonstration_
by: Quentin Kalis (2.5 out of 5)
This imaginatively titled release is, unsurprisingly, the first from this Austrian quartet, and contains three tracks of self-described "hardcore death metal". Isn't that the definition of metalcore? I can't blame them for avoiding any reference to such a loaded term, especially when there is more metal than core to their sound -- which is pretty solid, although their songs are a tad overlong, at about five minutes apiece. If their riffs or song structures were more intricate, this would not really be a problem. Judiciously edited songs would have resulted in punchier versions -- and it is always preferable to leave your audience wanting than providing too much or even just enough. Lyrically, they seem focused on general socio-political ills, apt for their style.

Poor editing hardly marks _Demonstration_ as irredeemable, but renders it insufficient justification for the trio to be signed to a label. But with a bit of editing, an improved production and a couple of punchy numbers, this shouldn't be beyond their capabilities.
