Inimical - _Lambs to the Slaughter_
by: Quentin Kalis (3.5 out of 5)
Danish newcomers Inimical perform four three minute bursts of what they describe as death metal combined with metalcore. The death metal tag does encompass some tired Gothenburg metal melodies, their staleness not alleviated by their catchiness. However, the description is accurate due to their combination of crunchy early Nineties Swedish death metal, as epitomised by the early days of Dismember and Entombed, with the more modern sounds of their core suffixed brethren. As is increasingly the case, the production is solid, despite its demo status.

Their modern metal approach, replete with a rolling guitar sound, will mean this is more likely to appeal to fans of Soilwork rather than those who grew up with _Left Hand Path_. The main criticism, apart from utterly exhausted melodeath melodies, is that the songs -- although individually well-written and relatively tight -- tend to sound too much like each other. Inimical will therefore have to work harder at ensuring that each composition is imbued with its own unique identity. Otherwise, this is a strong entrant to the metal nucore pantheon.
