Humangled - _Refoetalize_
by: Quentin Kalis (3 out of 5)
It is always a pleasure to hear something a bit off the beaten track, as even if the actual experience itself isn't pleasant, one can appreciate the effort. It is, after all, harder to come up with something innovative than to regurgitate a favoured style. With this is mind, Humangled have created what they call "industrial death" -- which is slightly misleading, as it implies death metal with a few random electronic elements. But this is not what Humangled have done. Instead, they have performed what is essentially an electronic version of death metal. The vocal approach and rhythms are clearly death metal, but filtered through downgraded and frequently distorted guitars and electronic rhythms. Some of the electronic effects are endearingly cheesy, but the merger itself is not entirely successful and is less than engaging. Still, if the aim of Humangled is to produce music that is different from the norm, then they are on the right path.
