Ground of Ruin - _Visions of Obscenity_
by: Quentin Kalis (2.5 out of 5)
Seems like there is more to Irish metal than the punchy reels and folk-inspired melodies of Cruachan, Skyclad and Primordial.

Ground of Ruin perform a mix of thrash and death metal on their self-financed EP -- a crossover that has been done on numerous occasions before and with countless variations. So the questions to be asked is whether these guys add something new, and if not, whether they are nonetheless worth a listen. The answer to the former is an unqualified "no". The answer to the latter is a fence-sitting "possibly".

The different vocal styles play wonderfully off each other, while a better production might have resulted in a more potent sound -- the guitars in particular are a bit thin. At the moment though, _Visions of Obscenity_ is a rather average entrant to the thrash/death universe.
