Hammer - _Ready Motherfucker_
by: Quentin Kalis (4 out of 5)
When a demo is called _Ready Motherfucker_ and incorporates a harmonica, as well as less endearing mid-song belches, one does not expect a particularly highbrow release -- nor are these NWOBHM resurrectors particularly concerned with what may or may not be the popular music of the day. This demo is essentially a time warp back to the day when the only black metal band around was Venom (not that they would have been known as such), but wouldn't you rather hear this instead of the umpteenth corpse painted troll roaming through the dark forests of the North or some guy in ratty jeans singing about playing football with a skull? Believe it or not, such bands do get a bit boring after a while.

The songs are catchy, with more than just a hint of sleazy rock (especially on "One Is a Bitch, One Is a Witch", which brought to mind "Bad to the Bone" of all songs!). The most noticeable flaw is that their fist and cock waving metal needs a far stronger guitar sound: it is far too weak. The falsetto screech is initially annoying -- it certainly is an acquired taste. Originality is not their strength, but like metal recidivists Metalucifer, this is hardly the point. If they perform live (and they surely must have) they must be an intimidating force. Good work boys!
