Subhuman - _Delirio No. 1_
by: Jackie Smit (4 out of 5)
Maybe it's just the circles that I move in, but damn near every Italian man, woman or child who I've befriended over the years seems to have a predominant fascination with thrash metal. It should come as no surprise then that there are a fair few thrash acts milling around Italian heartland; trouble is they're mostly quite mediocre. Subhuman, on the other hand, are a whole different ballgame -- hitting the mark across the six songs featured on _Delirio No 1_ with the same underlined ferocity that many of their signed peers do. Sure, they're not quite in the league of The Haunted et al just yet, but on the evidence of tracks like "Il Vecchio Bastardo" or the wholly unexpected cover of Faith No More's "Surprise You're Dead", Subhuman's tenure in the heavy metal spotlight isn't far off.
