Embracing Winds - _The Astounding Dawn_
by: Pedro Azevedo (2.5 out of 5)
Strange demo, this one. Embracing Winds aren't even a metal band, actually -- this is more darkwave, ethereal voices, keyboard-driven music with a female singer and some spoken male vocals. Some of the album sounds like Elend, but without the black metal leanings and they struggle with far less resources. Most of the time they have some artificial percussion going on, however, and sometimes a weak guitar rears its head as well. Unfortunately, basically everything on this demo sounds pretty weak, except the crystalline soprano voice, which is quite good. Some of the keyboard and guitar work isn't bad at all, but the whole affair comes across as rather disjointed and severely lacking in the production department. Embracing Winds still have a long way to go before they can astound anyone with their next demo, but they have shown sufficient potential on this one to hint that they may well succeed in capturing significant interest from listeners next time around.
