Cripple Bastards - _Senza Impronte_
(Relapse Records, 2012)
by: Aaron McKay (no rating)
These Italian vicious, grind punks are nothing if not long in the proverbial tooth tracing a lineage back to the late 1980s. It wasn't, however, until _Desperately Insensitive_ in 2003 that this writer slogged aboard the Cripple Bastards crustycore express train to Pummelsville.

Right up-front and in your face, first things first, this effort didn't even reach double digits in the CD duration column -- shy of even the nine minute mark. For the eight minutes and some odd seconds that Cripple Bastards does command your attention, their super-infused, hyperblast controlled brand of chaos seems to be performing at optimal levels on this brief five-song EP. Comparisons to Brutal Truth are not uncommon or unwarranted, however borderline unfair as a whole.

An unexpected bonus can be found in the blending of Giulio the Bastard's blood-curling vocal approach with certainly a more monstrously low-guttural growl 'n' snarl that all lends itself well to the type of madness displayed on this short effort. Beginning with "Regime Artificiale", "Agony of the Reformed Band", "Senza Impronte", "Mondo Plastico" and "Soggetto Leucemico / 10 Fassi Falsi", CB slices open a discordant salvo of things to come, hopefully on a full-length to follow soon. For now, here's a little snack, Cripple Bastards style.
