Liquid Graveyard - _On Evil Days_
(My Kingdom Music, 2009)
by: Quentin Kalis (5.5 out of 10)
Liquid Graveyard lent themselves to high expectations, being the new project of John Walker, former frontman of Brit death legends Cancer, but unfortunately greatly disappoint. The first warning sign that this is not of the calibre one would expect, if not demand, is the meaningless description as "dark death metal", a poor synonym for a melodious death/black hybrid with a hint of prog and a strong goth metal streak. The second warning sign is the addition of Walker's significant other as a vocalist, ranging from a decent death growl (obviously without the low end of a male growler), nondescript semi-spoken and inept clean singing. It's the latter which is used far too often, and thoughts of nepotism spring all too easily to mind. For a debut by an unknown it would be above average, with a nice blend of genres and some toe-tapping melodies; for someone of Mr Walker's stature, it's an abomination.
