Ignominious Incarceration - _Of Winter Born_
(Earache Records, 2009)
by: Paul Williams (8 out of 10)
Being such a young death metal band, I am surprised to hear such a good record from Ignominious Incarceration. The first two songs are reasonable and have the listener's attention with a slightly more blackened death metal riff in opener "Avarice" and the technical aggression of "Deeds of Days Long Gone". However, it's not until "Elegance in Aggression" that these Brits show their stuff with a chugging riff that leads on to quite a memorable four minute ordeal of melody driven death metal. Their blending of fast and slow tempos, melody and devastating power is what sets them above other new death metal acts. With songs such as "Solitude" to rip through crowds and a dual guitar attack in songs like "Dynasty Damnation", there is surely no stopping Ignominious Incarceration if they set their minds to carry on evolving their sound while maintaining the crisp production that really sustains the sound of _Of Winter Born_.
