Blodtru - _The Death of the Spirit_

Blodtru (Blóðtrú to be precise) presents three lengthy songs of black 'n' roll sandwiched between two helpings of ritual folk. The latter will not be mistaken for the bucolic romanticism or Ulver and Empyrium, but can be compared to Wolfsblood. The intro is effective, but at sixteen minutes plus, the outro is too long. The meat is very similar to Darkthrone circa _Plague Wielder and _Hate Them_, before they crossed over to black punk, and will be appreciated by those disappointed by Darkthrone's most recent abortions. It's hardly original but it is done well, although these too also tend to meander for a bit too long. Lyrically, _The Death of the Spirit_ is strongly centred on Paganism, with a touch of nationalism and a healthy helping of anti-Christianity, but with the sense that Trua (sole member of Blodtru) genuinely feels attached to Paganism and is not indulging in the usual rune-waving nationalism. It's a respectable debut, if a tad too similar to other artists, but could have been improved with some judicious editing.
