Sektarism - _L’Offrande_
(Insidious Poisoning Records, 2008)
by: Quentin Kalis (2.5 out of 10)
This EP consists of just one track of funeral doom literally lasting just over seventeen minutes, although it feels much longer. The song is comprised of ridiculously distorted guitars, low guttural growls and very elementary drumming. It need not be said that this progresses with all the urgency of an arthritic tortoise on Valium -- actually, I cannot say the song progresses; it merely plods along aimlessly until the composer decides it's time to stop, and could just as easily have proceeded for another seventeen minutes. The vocalist does have vicious snarls and groans, but this hardly affects the outcome. Purely for audio masochists.
