Head on Collision - _Ritual Sacrifice_
(Beer City, 2008)
by: Jeremy Ulrey (4.5 out of 10)
Hazed, frazzled, and generally hurting for a reason to exist, Head on Collision parley a conceptually superfluous take on neo-thrash Teutonic in spirit, pissed and violent in outlook. First track proper "Violence and Aggression" is hardly on par with the swing-elbows / fuck-shit-up eloquence of, say, "Toxic Waltz", both odes to the catharsis of violent outbursts but one catchy and tongue in cheek and the other perfunctory and only borderline articulate (I'll let you figure out which is which). Of all the CDs I receive for review lacking lyrics booklets, it's just my luck to get one that has such gems as "my name is fear -- I dwell inside you / I own your soul -- what will you do?" Thanks Jesus. I can sort of get behind the back to basics philosophy of this kind of thing; the problem is that if this were released back in the mid-to-late '80s this would have been every bit the unpolished turd it is today. Hate to say it, but maybe Head on Collision needs to be reincarnated as a Tankard cover band. At least then they would have decent material to work with.
