Agnostic Front - _Warriors_
(Nuclear Blast, 2007)
by: Jackie Smit (9 out of 10)
Every once in a while, you just want to drop to your knees and thank whichever god you worship for a band as obstinately stubborn as Agnostic Front. Their legacy requires little exposition, their influence across much of extreme music is paramount, and their continued existence seems ever more vital -- particularly in a climate where true blood 'n' guts hardcore is having its credibility eroded by a legion of crooning simpletons who are more in touch with their feminine side than Elton John.

So, with their backs buckling beneath the weight of the kudos heaped upon their last creative gear shift, _Warriors_ finds Agnostic Front once again rekindling the fires of their decidedly more boisterous crossover-thrash. Early numbers "Addiction", "Dead to Me" and "Outrage" are unsurprisingly testosterone-addled odes to manhood; punishing and sincere, if on the odd occasion hinting at being leftovers from 2004's _Another Voice_. It's on "For My Family", replete with its overtly sing-along chorus, that _Warriors_ thoroughly and exhilaratingly steps up to the mark. "We Want the Truth" and "By My Side" present feint but highly effective tweaks to the formula that result in perhaps two of the best tracks in Agnostic Front's formidable canon. And on "All These Years", Vinnie Stigma takes the microphone to let us know that: "We set the standards / We start the trends / Here 'till the end."

Goddamn right they do.
