Saltatio Mortis - _Aus der Asche_
(Napalm Records, 2007)
by: Quentin Kalis (1 out of 10)
Saltatio Mortis are described as "mittelalter rock", which apparently translates as "medieval rock", and unless you inexplicably love rock-era In Extremo, _Aus der Asche_ will be a waste of both time and money.

The nasal vocals (solely in German, but that's the least of my concerns regarding this release), homicide-inducing melodies on bagpipes and uninspired rock riffs are all individually annoying, but collectively are beyond redemption. I tried -- I honestly did -- but I failed to find a single redeeming feature, and breathed a sigh of relief when it was over.

If In Extremo's rocking renditions of traditional songs were your idea of musical nirvana, then this will be a welcome addition to your highly dubious CD collection. Otherwise, treat this album as if it were a disheveled man holding a Samurai sword, screaming about the voices in his head: approach with extreme caution.
