Deathboot - _You Scream in Pain When I Crush Your Balls_
(RAHW Production, 2005)
by: Pedro Azevedo (5.5 out of 10)
Deathboot make it clear from the album title itself that this isn't going to be pretty, and proceed to deliver their punkish grindcore over twelve brief tracks in a suitably blunt manner. Indeed, they don't just spell it out (slowly) with their chosen album title: they follow the same path with their music, which is either derivative or in strict adherence to genre aesthetics, depending on how you choose to look at it. There's no subtlety whatsoever here -- only rolling riffs, thundering bass, some occasional blastbeats and half-shouted, half-grunted vocals. Deathboot create some worthwhile material, but fail to win any awards on either sheer mind-boggling aggression or irresistible groove, resulting in a succession of tracks that are neither inept nor a particularly shining example of the genre; in a word, average. Production values are equally average -- the sound level is quite low, but the actual mix isn't bad if you turn up the volume enough. Ultimately this could be of some interest for dedicated followers of the genre, but everyone else is unlikely to find much to capture their attention here.

(On a side note, listening to Deathboot's _You Scream in Pain When I Crush Your Balls_ as part of the same review batch as the acoustic neoclassical music of Ataraxia and Autumn et sa Rose's _La Via Verso il Cielo_ proved to be a rather... interesting experience.)
