Kaamos - _Lucifer Rising_
(Candlelight Records, 2005)
by: Quentin Kalis (8 out of 10)
Let's get a few things straight upfront: Kaamos do not perform the most innovative death metal. Nor by a long shot are they the most technically proficient. But -- and this is a big "but" -- they perform old school death metal (biggest influences in all likelihood being Grave and Entombed) with such competence and such passion that they cannot be faulted for doing so. There is a considerable number of riffs that sounded eerily familiar, but I just couldn't put my finger on just where I heard them -- maybe it's simply time for me to revisit some death metal classics...

A comparison can be made with the more widely acclaimed Bloodbath, as they both recreate the sound and feel of death metal's golden era, but done in such an energising manner that it is impossible to dismiss either as unoriginal rehashes or mere emulation. It seems almost superfluous to comment on various aspects of the album; anyone at all familiar with this kind of music will not be treated to any real surprise, but nor will he think that his money has been wasted by purchasing this album. Definitely recommended.
