Imperial - _Malmort_
(Osmose, 1999)
by: Paul Schwarz (2 out of 10)
I don't think I have been ground into the dust by quite such a wave of unrelentingly tedious songs since I last spun Mortician's most recent album [CoC #42]. In fact, as far as I can see, Imperial are Mortician's equivalent in the thrash scene of 1999. Their album boasts a "Warning!!!": "This is an album of speedcore!!! Not for emotive people!!!" -- this did not endear me to their cause from the start. Maybe it is because I am an "emotive person", but I actually think it is because I don't enjoy extreme music made by someone who can't even write a vaguely exciting song, let alone an original one. Imperial hack relentlessly at my psyche with the boring, repetitive drone of _Malmort_, and after forty minutes Imperial have pushed my spirits low, something I do not appreciate. Plundering the likes of Exodus, Destruction, Kreator and Anthrax with little skill and less taste, Imperial are neither funny nor exciting. I am sick of hearing tedious, retro-thrash bullshit and if I was forced to listen to it I would pay good money to make sure that Imperial were not the chosen "delight" I would be forced to pollute my ears with.
