Damaste - _The Crumbling Vaults of the 5th Sun_
by: Quentin Kalis (3 out of 5)
Named for a heroic figure from regional mythology, these Italian newcomers unleash their first offering upon the world. In Flames-esque melodies and hardcore breaks are filtered through a mix of thrash and death, played out over the course of four well-composed tracks, with an above average level of competency and technical proficiency. Frequent tempo changes, catchy riffs and melodious solos retain interest at comfortable levels, even if a few melodies do sound recycled. Only those with limited metal exposure would deem Damaste to be a particularly original, but their blend of familiar forms in a familiar fashion is done with no small expertise.
