Abyssus - _Abyssus_
by: Yulon Zhu (3 out of 5)
The old saying "imitation is the best form of flattery" could be true, but it's a very annoying way of paying homage to musical inspirations. Metal may be a relatively young form of music when compared to other genres, yet sometimes it seems that all of the good takes on it have already been done by bands formed before the new millennia. Luckily, Georgian USBM act Abyssus may have erected in 2007, but sliced out demo _Abyssus_, borrowing a bit from early Mayhem and Gorgoroth without mirroring either band.

Another entrant into the field of one-man black metal, the cold and the grim is ever-present in the absence of mediocrity and the "I'm 15 and lonely" sound many one-man passages fail to cover up. Sure, this demo is limited to 100 copies and is under 12 minutes long, but you know your attention span would most likely start to dwindle after anything longer than that, what with the ADHD plague and everything.

Getting straight to the point, if you're looking for something that is fast and maniacal, you should turn to Abyssus. So, check out the next demo and the full-length when it's out, because everyone needs some obscure black metal with numbingly poor production every now and again to ensure their sanity is kept at bay.
