Legions of War - _In the Snipers Eye_
by: Quentin Kalis (2.5 out of 5)
This is a four track demo lyrically focused on war (surprise, surprise!). Unlike most thrashers these days, who seem to take their cue from the more melodic Bay Area strain, Swedes Legions of War have adopted the grittier German counterpart as the basis for their sound. Well, not so much a basis as a complete rip -- one could easily believe that these four songs were recorded last century. I imagine this is what Legions of War is aiming for, but that doesn't make it any better. Using this sound as a starting point for their own take, rather than slavishly adopting it, would not have necessarily resulted in a stronger album; but it would certainly have resulted in a more interesting listen. Still, they get an extra point just for being the one thrash band that offered something a bit different this month.
