Crysalys - _Season of Suffering_
by: Quentin Kalis (2 out of 5)
Crysalys adopts the usual female-fronted approach to heavy /gothic tinged metal. However, despite her best efforts, the vocalist lacks the range and skill that has come to define this subgenre. Despite this, she's clearly meant to be the focal point, as her voice is noticeably higher in the mix than the guitars. The drumming suffers particularly from an inadequate production, and sounds rather muddy -- it might have worked for some more-primitive-than-thou basement black metal, but it is a distraction in this context. A few male growls are present; only a few, but their presence is no less predictable than the rising of the sun. Perhaps they will live up to their name and metamorphose into a band of note; but based on this demo, they are merely another faceless and nameless addition to a long litany of female-fronted bands.
