Vinterriket - _Sturme der Letzen Stille_
by: Quentin Kalis (2 out of 5)
What a disappointment. After the brilliant first demo, Vinterriket just had to unnecessarily "try to expand their sound" with the addition of clean male vocals and drums. While I can't blame Vinterriket for wishing to experiment, I wasn't impressed with either the vocals or the drums. The monotone vocals, while excellent in emphasising the dismal nature of the songs, do start to get a bit irritating after a couple of tracks. The drumming, which at times sounds as if it should be backing some death or black metal track, generally doesn't fit in with the softer ambient soundscapes. Furthermore, the tracks do not really have their own identity and tend to blur into one indistinguishable mass. A pity, since I really loved their first demo. Still looking forward to their next release, though.
