Abstract Rapture - _Democadencia_
(Maddening Media, 2008)
by: Quentin Kalis (7 out of 10)
Abstract Rapture are a new band from the minute state of Luxembourg, performing modern thrash descended from Machine Head and Pantera, with some Swedish melodic touches and some 'core infusions. The sound is clear and powerful -- those responsible for production and mastering have done their jobs. The vocals are varied, including de rigueur clean vox attempts stronger than most. They alternate between straight out riffing and sections that display a degree of technical prowess. The songs are catchy, but never descending into radio-friendly pop melodies. Modern thrash is not on the top of my preferred genres -- classic Exodus, Sodom or Kreator is more to my taste -- but I recognise quality when I hear it, and these guys have it. Sure, it needs some more work, but hey, this is their debut album and they will have plenty of opportunities to be bolder in their approach.
