Thy Endless Wrath - _Next to the Throne of Chaos_
(HateWorks, 2004)

Thy Endless Wrath are a Colombian entrant to the wave of melodic black metal that reached its apex in 1997, and _Next to the Throne of Chaos_ could just as easily have been recorded then. The melodic rather than symphonic aspects are emphasised, although synths are constantly present -- but almost always in the background, never rising to the heights of Dimmu Borgir or Limbonic Art. One could almost believe that they are there because it is the expected thing and not because it is an integral part of the music. Neither is this a necrotic race to the bottom of the production barrel, but it would have benefited from a stronger guitar sound in particular and a stronger sound overall. Had this possessed a bit more vitality, it might have been a southern alternative to the current Far North dominance, but the songs are dull, sounding too much like each other, eventually blending together into an indistinguishable homogenous mass. I have heard a number of Colombian bands recently that I would not hesitate to recommend, but this is not one of them.
