Mass Extinction - _Creation's Undoing_
(Underground Movement, 2008)
by: Kostas Sarampalis (6.5 out of 10)
This is the first EP release from this Irish thrash quintet, and it is actually a very listenable and interesting effort. Without throwing any surprises or curveballs, the three tracks here are straightforward and fairly uncomplicated thrash metal. Nevertheless, the clear production, playful bass lines and unassumingly upbeat guitar solos raise the quality of the material way above the sea of average and uninspired releases in the genre.

With "Global Assassin" you even get a feeling of early Skyclad, albeit less melodic. Perhaps it is the vocals or the ability to involve the listener in the rhythm guitar lines. The EP also includes a bonus track in the form of Vio-lence cover "Kill on Command", which is well done, but one might say superfluous, since their own songs are good enough to dispense the support of a classic rendition.

_Creation's Undoing_ is a solid EP that should whet the appetite of the fans of the genre for the band's first full length. It is not earth shattering or even original, but for what it aspires to be, the lads are definitely on a rock solid path with it.
