Incendiant - _Incendiant_
(Jordan River Entertainment / Mute, 2007)
by: Quentin Kalis (7 out of 10)
Jordan based label Jordan River Entertainment have signed their first band outside the Middle East for their third release. The guitarist does have an Islamic name, so perhaps there is a cultural connection -- but irrelevant, as Jordan River Entertainment is a conduit for pummelling death metal above all other considerations. This much is apparent from the USA based Incendiant, as they are not drastically different to previous releases from Jordan's Ajdath or Lebanon's Oath to Vanquish. Not in the sense that they sound like each other, but in the sense that they perform a passionate if generic take on a variant of death metal. They are not the most technical band around, but neither are they the most primitive; and accordingly would benefit from a more powerful production, which at the very least would eliminate the hollow sounding snare drum, one of my many nemeses.

But there’s not much beyond that; as the band perform together and have the ability to have a higher mastering and productions at hand, they will be become tighter, perhaps more technical. At the moment, they are a straightforward, no frills entrant, of a sufficiently high standard and potency to attract the respect and attention of death metal aficionados around the world, but providing little beyond a genre release. It's still an entertaining listen, just nothing we haven't heard before.
