Girnu Giesmes - _Rupus Miltai_
(Autarkeia, 2006)
by: Quentin Kalis (8.5 out of 10)
Girnu Giesmes is the project of one Laurynas Jukonis, and has been in existence since 1995, releasing a number of full-lengths. Given the quality of this release and my (somewhat limited) exposure to Lithuanian post-industrial, I am convinced that alongside Donis (who released the brilliant _Alexandreia_ album earlier this year), Girnu Giesmes must be one of the shining lights of the scene in the Baltic state.

Again, I am faced with the unusual prospect of great difficulty in adequately describing both _Rupus Miltai_ and my thoughts. Part of the problem can be found in its dynamic nature, as although it falls under both the minimalist and rhythmic strains of industrial, there are moments when it ventures into dark ambient and even martial industrial. However, it possesses fewer minimalist tendencies than its successor, _Tiems, Kas Budi uz Slenskcio_.

Although the album is divided up into five tracks, this appears to be more for the listener's convenience than for his, as the songs all merge into one another seamlessly, the only indication of a switch between songs being the LCD of my CD player. In other words, this is really just one long track (albeit a damn good one) and thus should be listened to in order, in one sitting.
