Symphorce - _Godspeed_
(Metal Blade, 2005)
by: Jackie Smit (6 out of 10)
Had Nevermore decided one day to make a balls-out power metal record, _Godspeed_ might likely have been the result. This is high praise indeed for the technical talents of this German quintet, who certainly show an impressive aptitude for their chosen instruments, with Andy Franck's vocals sounding particularly convincing against the band's backdrop of distinctly European metal. Unfortunately the vintage Euro bent is precisely where the trouble lies, for while bands like Nevermore and even Communic retain a consistently universal sound, Symphorce can't seem to help themselves from throwing plonkers like "No Shelter" -- music that is more suited to a Jean Claude Van Damme movie soundtrack than anything else -- amongst what is otherwise an enjoyable, if not particularly memorable collection of songs.
