Convulsion - _Severe and Violent_
by: Quentin Kalis (4 out of 5)
It is one thing to adjudicate on a band's merits based on a few demo tracks; quite another when a three song demo does not even last for eight minutes! Convulsion are keenly aware of the paucity of minutes and pack as much as they possibly can into those brief songs. Nonetheless, it is apparent that these self-proclaimed performers of "Stockholm death metal" do not deviate too far from what would be expected from a Swedish death metal band, foregoing the overt melody of their Gothenburg cousins in favour of an infinitely more aggressive and violent approach.

Their dynamic numbers would have been better served by a slightly stronger production, but their performance is tighter than I could have reasonably expected. Their rendition is vibrant, catchy and professional enough to justify a re-recording for their debut album -- there isn't one planned, but a label signing surely must be imminent.

For those looking for well-performed Swedish death metal along the lines of Kaamos, one can do far worse than check out these new boys on the block.
